Linton Kwesi Johnson portrait

I had a bit of time at the Tricycle theatre to take this portrait before documenting an event with Linton Kwesi Johnson and Patience Agbabi who were sharing the poetry, prose and song that has inspired them throughout their lives.

It is a tricky number when you are a fan of your subjects work – especially when he starts the shoot saying “I hate photographers – we never get on”. To be honest that statement was a disappointment from a man so clearly aware of the dangers of generalisation within society, however, a degree of tension is not always bad between photographer and subject as I rose to his level of confrontation and ultimately engagement.

It was a night put on by English PEN. Below is an images from the performance.

Cuba Si!

I spent most of January beetling around Cuba on a mission to clear the old noggin, replenish my vitamin D levels, scuba dive, trek, drink rum, photograph my surroundings etc… you get the drift. I’m just sorting through my images and thought I would upload a little vignette of Havana life. This compilation is basically focuses on the crumbling grandeur of the architecture with a couple of others added in to give it a human element.

But otherwise I’ll be uploading occasional pics here on my blog. But don’t rush me or I’ll set the Castro boys on you
